Second Annual Big Sing Jr!: November 4, 2023

Thank you to the dozens of young choral musicians who attended the second annual Big Sing Jr. event, at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine! We had a great time making music together, and we look forward to next year!

Programs Day: October 28, 2023

This year's Programs Day event comprised three valuable sessions: 1) An introduction to Alexander Technique and its applications for musicians 2) An exploration of a kinesthetic toolkit for conductors, to get their choruses "plugged in," led by Hannah Nacheman, and 3) a session about social media for arts organizations. 

The Big Sing! June 12, 2023

Hundreds of NYC singers gathered for the Big Sing, at St. Vincent Ferrer. Under the baton of twelve directors of member choruses, we enjoyed some of our favorite a cappella works from a variety of genres and time periods. 

Programs Day: October 22, 2022

 

Thank you to members who joined us for NYCC's Programs Day on Saturday, October 22, at the Synod House at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. We got geared up for promotion and programming in three exciting sessions: 1) Attorney Rob Monath walked us through the permissions process for choral livestreams and online postings 2) Diversity in Action intern Mary Daugherty updated us on our expanding repertoire database 3) And composer Paul Moravec, with special guest Laquita Mitchell, took us inside his oratorio, Sanctuary Road, and lead a lively discussion about its significance. 

First Annual Big Sing Jr!: May 7, 2022

Dozens of singers in the 4th-12th grade, from many of greater New York City's youth choral ensembles joined together for a day of music at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. Here's a brief clip of some of the action!

Fall Programs Day: October 23, 2021

NYCC Diversity in Action chair Everett McCorvey organized this wonderful opportunity to meet seven dynamic African-American composers and learn about their work. They included: Cedric Dent, Marques L. A. Garrett, Diane White-Clayton, Rosephanye Powell, Timothy Amukele, and Kathy Bullock.

NYCC Annual Meeting: June 14, 2021

 

In addition to traditional annual meeting business, we were joined by composer Robert Paterson, who has been commissioned by NYCC to write a piece honoring the 10-year anniversary of The Big Sing and the 20-year anniversary of the attacks on 9/11. He shared background on his process and previewed the piece.

 

Membership Day: February 20, 2021

The focus of this year's Membership Day was "Lessons Learned - and the Way Forward," which included a series of discussions about COVID and what comes next.

Fall Programs Day: October 24, 2020

This year's (virtual) Fall Programs Day focused on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Race. The event was facilitated by Everett McCorvey, Chair of Diversity in Action for the NY Choral Consortium and Music Director for the National Chorale and American Spiritual Ensemble, along with acclaimed diversity, equity, and inclusion consultant Tami Forte Logan.

Summer Workshop Series: July 22 - August 5, 2020

NYCC Annual Meeting + COVID-19 Discussion: June 8, 2020

In light of COVID-related restrictions, we went virtual for our 2020 Annual Meeting. After voting in the new slate of board members, there were some exciting announcements about our plans for the 10th anniversary of the Big Sing next year.​ Then we welcomed Catherine Dehoney, President and CEO of Chorus America, who facilitated a conversation titled “Building a Bright Future in a Post-COVID Age.”

At the 2020 Membership Day, NYCC members joined in a rousing discussion about education in our choruses in its many forms: outreach, (singer) skill development, and audience engagement.

NYCC Membership Day: February 9, 2019 

NYCC's annual Membership Day provides programming specifically designed to help New York City-based choirs thrive and succeed. The day touches artistic and administrative topics alike and provides the opportunity to network with other ensembles.

Chorus America Chorus Management Institute: January 18-20, 2019

 

The New York Choral Consortium was thrilled to host Chorus America's 2019 Chorus Management Institute, January 18-20, 2019 in New York City. 

 

Jumpstart your chorus with ideas and skills you can put to use right away! The Chorus Management Institute is a three-day "crash course" that gives you tools, strategies, and a professional network that you can put to immediate use. Faculty will cover key fundamentals and best practices in Strategic Thinking & Planning, Governance & Board Development, Marketing & Communications, Fundraising, and more. 

 

This program provides an invaluable eduction opportunity for leaders of small and mid-level budget choirs, music directors looking for additional grounding in nonprofit management, new board members and board chairs, and administrative leaders looking for additional professional development.

NYCC Fall Programs Day: October 13th, 2018
